Italian moulder Wegaplast plans Polish production plant

Italian technical plastics injection moulder and mould maker Wegaplast is planning to set up a new production plant in south western Poland.

Its national Polish offshoot Wega Poland has won planning consent to build the new operation on a site in the Sroda Slaska development sub zone of the Special Economic Zone in Legnica.

Wega Poland, established in June 2013, is to construct a 4,300 square metre production hall on the site and has agreed to employ at least 17 workers there by 2020.

The new plant project allows for later expansion with ample surface area for the addition of a similar sized extension to the initial production hall, according to the Polish firm’s chief executive officer Marco Ponzellini, who is also managing director of Wegaplast group.

Wega Poland is 90% owned by its parent group which is based in Toscanella di Dozza, near Bolgna in Italy and was founded in 1952.

Wegaplast is a major supplier of moulded plastic components for the automotive sector and also serves the household appliances and power tools markets. Customers supplied with parts for automotive parts include Delphi, Lear, Webasto, Autoliv, Lamborghini and VW as well as white goods manufacturer Electrolux.

In 2013, Wegaplast reported that around 60% of its annual turnover resulted from the sale of moulded automotive components.

The Italian group also runs a subsidiary company Wegalux, dedicated to the production of novel coloured UV photovoltaic plastics roof tiles.

Plastic tiles with integrated PV cells have been used effectively alongside the traditional terracotta tiles traditionally used for roofing particularly in Italy.
