Italian robot maker Gaiotto is planning to open a new plant in Piacenza, in what the company calls “the heart of the mechatronics district”.

Gaiotto is owned by Sacmi Group and mainly operates in Sacmi’s predominant market of ceramics manufacturing. But Gaiotto also supplies robots and automation systems to plastics injection moulders.

The plant’s opening is set for 29 June and will include a conference on the theme Industry 4.0, which will consider the role of automation in the factory of the future.

One of the speakers will be Prof Cesare Fantuzzi, from the engineering department at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Emilio Cavazzini, general manager of Gaiotto, said: “The concept of automation unites and optimises the most significant skills in the fields of mechanics, electronics, software and sensoristics. What at one time were generally separate fields of business are now a part of a single process where robots, video cameras, sensoristics and advanced mechanics contribute together to the reduction of total cost ownership. In practice, they make it possible for industrial costs to be reduced considerably, whilst increasing the quality of the product and flexibility of production.”

Gaiotto says its turnover in 2015 was €15m, with a third of this generated from orders outside the Sacmi Group.
