Growing demand worldwide has prompted German storage and transit container maker Auer Packaging to start constructing a new production hall at its Bavarian plant in Amerang.

Work began to build a second plastic packaging moulding hall last month (Jan) at the family-run company’s 50,000 square metre site in Upper Bavaria. Auer plans to install seven new injection moulding lines in the new 3,000 square metre building this June.

Longer term, the German processor intends to double the number of moulding lines in the hall to 14, increasing its capacity by 7 million units per year, according to the firm.

Further expansion is already planned with a new project to add a third production hall and a logistics centre at Amerang set to start later this year. Construction on this phase is due to begin in mid-2016, the company said.

So far, Auer Packaging, which produces 14 million containers a year, has not revealed details of the value of its current or proposed investments.

The packaging manufacturer makes a range of products from warehouse bins, shelving and material flow boxes for storage with round or oval containers for the chemical and food industries to stackable KLT containers, bulk carriers and pallets.

Auer Packaging manufactures its product range exclusively in Germany from non-recycled materials and distributes output through its eight sales subsidiaries across eastern and western Europe and through partners worldwide.

Apart from the developing plant at Amerang, Auer also operates a second facility nearby at Hohenpei?enberg.

With order books currently full, Auer predicts its turnover, which stood at €84m in 2015, will rise to €90m this year. The firm believes its annual sales will soon surpass the €100m mark, it said.
